Anchor Fish and Chips

Many restaurants that pass themselves off as Irish Pubs offer fish and chips. However, hands down, Anchor Fish and Chips serves the best fish and chips in town. When you arrive, there is a bustling crowd of patrons looking to be seated. They don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait. The waiting area is a small space with a few seats, just inside door. Be patient but luckily the seating turns over quickly. There is a counter for dining, similar to a sushi bar, which usually has a few spots open, but you still have to be seated by the host. Everyone that works there is very friendly, and it is apparent that they enjoy working there.

Now to the food. Although there is a variety of Irish style food, the star of the menu is the Fish and Chips. You receive a very large, lightly breaded, deep fried price of Wild Alaskan Cod, served over a heaping serving of hand-cut chips. I highly recommend that you order this. You won’t regret it and you will want to come back again soon. Personally, I like tartar sauce with fish and chips but strangely there is a 50-cent charge for a small side of it. There is malt vinegar on the table which is traditionally lighted drizzled on the fish.

They also offer traditional Irish food such as Shepard’s Pie which is a popular dish. It is combination of locally sourced beef and veggies topped with mashed potatoes. They also offer Poutine, which is a combination of Gravy infused with Bent Anchor Poitin beer served with cheese curds over a bed of their hand-cut chips.

Surprisingly, Anchor offers Burger and Chips which they call the Helicopter Burger and is made from grass-fed beef. This burger is covered with a creamy, Irish cheddar, with a slab of a hefty slice of ham, and a sizzling fried egg. If you are not a fish person, this is a great alternative.

Anchor also has a Sunday brunch with traditional Irish fare. They have a twist on Bangers (sausage) and Mash (mashed potatoes) serving Bangers andRashers(bacon). Along with this comes Heinz Beans. Also, all of the eggs are cage free and organic.

Along with the expectational food, Anchor offers a Beer and Wine menu. A wide array of Irish beers is available. Although, not on the menu try a Black and Tan. It is a combination of Guinness, which is a bitter Irish beer and Harp, a lighter Irish beer. It is poured so the beers are layered, and you can taste both beers with each sip.

The restaurant is closed on Mondays and only open for dinner Tuesday through Friday. Open all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Anchor Fish and Chips offers many other Irish foods but go for the Fish and Chips. You won’t be disappointed.
