The Copper Cow: Burgers, Fries and Malts, OH MY!

Move over Burger King, there’s a new Burger KING in town. Local restaurants and neighborhood shops have always had a loyal following. When local business owners bought out the old and beloved Dairy Queen drive thru, fans (especially me) were heartbroken. Well, I’m here to tell you my heart has been mended.

The Copper Cow offers burgers you never knew were possible, homemade french fries (yes you can tell a difference, more on that later), and malts to top it all off, even the option to have some booze in your shake. Built in the shell of the old Dairy Queen, a sit down restaurant with home-style décor has made its mark.

Let’s start off with the deep fried burger. I pride myself on being a healthy eater so I was a little thrown off with this on the menu. Of course I tried it though because the mystery of it compelled me. The crunch of the deep fried bun met with the warm, melty cheese and perfectly cooked burger was a delightful combination.

Imagine like the Minnesota State Fair but in your backyard. It was a delicious remix of the classic burger and a good way to start the meal.

The french fries. Yes they are homemade and you will understand as soon as you bite into one. Each fry has the right amount of crunch and softness that will make you forget every other fry you’ve had.

Now onto dessert. The Copper Cow isn’t a rookie when it comes to loyalty and they know their fans want Dairy Queen. So to soften the blow they offer their own ice cream instead. Handcrafted malts topped with homemade whipped cream and a perfect cherry on top. If you’re feeling fun, their boozy shakes are a staple. A whole menu of different shakes mixed with booze and topped with the wildest toppings. Ever wanted a donut and ice cream but your parents said pick one? Now you don’t have to. Each boozy shake comes with a topping stacked on top that will make you feel like a kid again. Not old enough to enjoy the booze or just not in the mood? The shakes can be made a virgin with all the toppings and deliciousness still included.

I’m here to spread positivity in the world so we won’t dwell on this but we warned of the wait time. Of course, a wait means it must be good and The Copper Cow has nailed the way to wait. When you check in you give the host your phone number which will send you a confirmation text and later a text for when you are next on the list so you know when to come back. The best part? Since a text message doesn’t require you to stay in a certain perimeter like those buzzers do, you can walk across the street to a local brewery. So really there are no negatives to “the wait” other then maybe getting a little hangry (hunger that makes you angry, of course there is a word for it) but that’s nothing a little deep fried burger can’t fix.

Oh yea there’s one last thing. There is a DRIVE THRU. Yes, you read that right. If you feel like eating at home or you’re too hangry to wait, pick up dinner and a shake. Or if you’re just in the mood for ice cream, stop by the ice cream counter and get some to go.

The Copper Cow is located at 5445 Eden Prairie Rd, Minnetonka, MN 55345.

Enjoy!
